Webster University’s Ninth Annual Animation and Interactive Media Festival was a success. Kinematifest 9 featured many excellent short films from around the world and presented some otherworldly illustrations in the concept design category.


Keynote speaker Jerry Beck (author and animation historian) of Cartoon Brew and Cartoon Research spoke about the possibilities in the animation industry that were not available (or even possible) in the “era of decline” between the 1970s-1990s. Computer animation has really opened the doors for a new golden age in animation. The job market has been growing into areas like small advertising agencies and the video game industry. Feature film production remains the largest employment sector but there are even new resources for indie film production and distribution with online streaming services hungry for animated content.
